1998 – 2006
Origin
Cenciarini & Co. was founded in 1998 by Professor Renzo A. Cenciarini.
Graduated magna cum laude in Economics and Business from Bocconi University, he later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he received the J.P. Morgan Fellowship.
After many years as a successful manager and entrepreneur, he was invited to join Bocconi as a professor of Finance. He has concentrated on entrepreneurship and startup growth, creating one of Bocconi’s first courses dedicated to managing the scale-up of new ventures.
In its first years, the company started by making equity investments through selective carve-outs in the telecommunications sector, while at the same time providing independent advisory services to senior managers, entrepreneurs and family businesses in strategic transitions, corporate restructuring and deal-making. These initial efforts helped build expertise in valuation, fairness opinions and complex financial restructuring.
2007 – 2014
Expansion & Reputation
In the mid-2000s, CenCo expanded its role as a trusted financial advisor, consolidating its reputation through several mandates in M&A and capital raising. The firm supported entrepreneurs, family businesses and mid-market companies across industries (from healthcare to logistics, technology and fashion) and strengthened its expertise in valuation and fairness opinions.
Over the years, the firm has been able to combine the rigor of investment banking with an entrepreneurial vision for growth.
2015 – 2020
The entrepreneurial shift
Recognizing the emerging innovation landscape and the growing need for venture-oriented finance, Cenciarini & Co. evolved into a hybrid platform, combining advisory with direct investments.
Alongside its traditional investment banking activity, the firm began to support early-stage ventures with both capital and strategic guidance, often nurturing ideas born within Bocconi University classrooms. Over time, these experiences shaped a philosophy that goes beyond finance: fostering young entrepreneurs, helping them structure their businesses and cultivating teams capable of turning creative visions into sustainable companies. For Prof. Cenciarini, the human dimension remains the true driver of success: building teams, creating shared value and using finance not merely as a tool for profit, but as a lever to generate lasting positive impact.
2021 – Today
A dual identity
Today, Cenciarini & Co. operates with a dual identity: as a venture investor and as a strategic advisor to both clients and portfolio companies. With more than €500M in transactions advised or managed and a growing portfolio of early-stage investments across the world, the firm combines deep financial expertise with an entrepreneurial vision.
Since 2020, CenCo has increasingly focused on technology ventures and, in 2022, it launched the TLI Space division to explore opportunities in the emerging space economy and deep tech. In both fields, the firm leverages its financial know-how and extensive network to support fundraising and long-term growth.
